I will always tell you the truth.
I remember nothing of being human.

| Name: | Alice Cullen |
|---|---|
| Location: | Forks, Washington, United States |
Background: Alice was born around 1901 in Bilouxi, Mississippi, as Mary Alice Brandon. As a human, she had premonitions, but her family didn't believe her and, instead, thought she was crazy and had her committed to an asylum. Somehow there she caught the attention of James, a vampire tracker, who decided to make her his toy/target. Rather than let her be killed by James, an old vampire who worked at the asylum turned Alice into a vampire, thus ensuring James lost interest. Through the transformation, Alice loses all memory of her life as a human, forgetting who she was and what her life was like, so most of her history before that is something she pieces together through research later. She finds her tombstone at one point--realizing her parents said she died on the day they admitted her to the asylum, basically casting her aside. She had a younger sister, too, Cynthia, and Cynthia's daughter is still alive, but Alice hasn't met her niece yet. As a vampire, Alice's human ability of having premonitions deepens and she's able to see the future. It's an imperfect ability though--she can only see the future for vampires and humans, not for werewolves or half-breeds, and she can only see the future of a decision once it's been made, so she can't foresee spur of the moment decisions, or anything someone might do on impulse, or how that might change outcomes. Her visions are always shifting as people change their minds about things--some things, though, she holds to firmly, like the fact that Bella will one day become a vampire, even though Edward keeps insisting it will never happen. At some point, Alice had a vision of herself and Jasper living with the Cullens, and she set out to find Jasper. She found him in a diner in Philadelphia, and they became the loves of each others lives, and together, using Alice's visions, they sought out Carlisle and the Cullen family, and joined them, becoming "vegetarians" --subsisting on animal blood instead of human in order to live peaceably among humans.
When Edward meets Bella, Alice has a vision that she and Bella will become great friends, and treats her as a sister and a member of the family from the start, always supporting Edward's relationship with Bella, aware of the strong possibility that Bella will become Edward's wife and truly her "sister" one day. When James starts tracking Bella, Alice and Jasper take her to Phoenix while the others try and lead James off the scent, and Alice has to deal with changing visions as people keep making new decisions about what to do. When Bella is in danger of bleeding to death, Alice is in favor of turning her into a vampire, as it's going to happen anyway, but Edward won't allow it to happen. Throughout the series, Alice is always there for Bella, trying to encourage her romance with Edward along, and trying to coax Bella toward a more feminine version of herself--taking her shopping, dressing her up like a doll, throwing her parties. She stays by her side as her best friend, helping her adjust to being part of a vampire family, and when Bella's daughter, Renesmee is threatened, it is Alice who goes hunting the world to find another hybrid to prove to the Volturi what these beings are, and thus saves the Cullens and their allies from war.
Personality: Alice is very optimistic and upbeat, friendly and whimsical. She loves shopping and parties, and seems to take great delight in orchestrating entertainments for her family and friends. She does things her own way, ignoring advice, acting on her own visions without explaining herself--but the result is generally that things turn out better than they might have otherwise. There's a sort of longing you can see in her for the "normal" teenage things, and sometimes it's like she's living vicariously through Bella--trying to make sure she gets the teen years that Alice never got, and couldn't remember even if she did. She is very loyal to her family, and very kind in general, even if the other kids at school find her weird. She marches to her own drumbeat, loves music, singing and dancing, and firmly believes in things turning out for the best if you have a little faith. Where Edward broods, Alice believes, and they are foils for each other in a lot of ways.
Physical Description: Petite (4'10") and very pixie like, Alice has short dark hair she wears in a spiky style, and eyes that change, like the rest of her family's, from dark when she's hungry, to a more golden color when she's recently fed. She doesn't walk so much as dance through life. Like the other Twilight vampires, she inexplicably sparkles in the sun.
Point of entry: When she leaves to go look for the other hybrids in Breaking Dawn.
